Testnets die on a schedule, and the tutorials never get the memo. This is a dated, sourced status map of 9 Ethereum and L2 testnets: 2 supported, 1 being retired, 3 already gone, and 3 with no published plan.

    Still the default testnet in most tutorials and tooling, and it stops being supported on 30 September 2026. A replacement launched in March 2026 and the two run side by side through the grace period, so migrate during the overlap rather than after it.

    Launched March 2025 as the replacement for Holesky. The longest runway of any Ethereum testnet right now, so it is the safe default for validator and protocol work.

On 4 August 2026 a self-propagating worm reached 444 npm packages in under four hours, stealing credentials at install time and republishing itself with what it stole. It was named ChainDrop, which has nothing to do with this site beyond the coincidence. We keep a sourced reference and a lockfile checker that runs entirely in your browser.

On faucets

We are re-verifying every faucet link before it goes back up. The previous list pointed at Goerli and Mumbai, both dead for years. Fake faucets that harvest wallet approvals are a common way to lose keys, so a stale link here is a real risk rather than an untidy one. Each network above links to its official docs, which is where the current faucet lives.

Elsewhere in Web3: the LA Blockchain Summit runs the Los Angeles side of the conference circuit, which is where a lot of the protocol and tooling conversation on this page happens out loud first.

Sources for the statuses on this page:
